Our mission
Through its actions, L’ŒUVRE LÉGER aims to fulfill the following mission:
To take an active role in current efforts to restore human dignity to those who have been rejected by society, here in Canada and around the world, setting aside religious beliefs and partisan politics.
To work to reduce poverty and social exclusion by building on the capacity of populations to implement structures, means, and tools to organize their response to meet basic needs.
Through its mission, L’ŒUVRE LÉGER distinguishes itself from other organizations working in Canada and abroad. For the past 60 years, L’ŒUVRE LÉGER:
- Has worked in places cut off from most other resources.
- Has managed flexible structures making it possible to act quickly and efficiently.
- Has worked with some of the most forgotten or marginalized populations, in Canada and abroad.
Our principles
Whether in Quebec or elsewhere in the world, L’ŒUVRE LÉGER bases its work on certain fundamental values, such as:
- Improving people’s living conditions;
- Allowing individuals and populations to exercise greater power and control over their environment;
- Implementing sustainable and equitable solutions;
- Respecting the dignity of individuals and the diversity of interventions.
In addition to providing disadvantaged people with better access to basic goods, L’ŒUVRE LÉGER is committed to fight poverty and social inequities by giving priority to prevention, education, self-promotion, social solidarity, and local, sustainable development.
A central value
At the heart of our mission and principles, a central value guides L’ŒUVRE LÉGER: dignity as the inalienable right of all human beings, whatever their condition, nationality, culture, or religion.
